The ninth release in Penderyn’s acclaimed Icons of Wales series, The Headliner pays tribute to David Lloyd George (1863–1945)—Wales’ only Prime Minister and a transformative figure in both politics and spirits. Known for his sweeping social reforms, Lloyd George inadvertently laid the foundations for the premium whisky industry in the UK. A trailblazer and national symbol of Welsh resurgence, he dominated headlines like no other statesman of the 20th century.
This distinctive expression is bottled at 46% ABV and comes in a 70cl format. It has been artfully matured in a combination of Jamaican Rum and Ruby Port casks, delivering a layered and expressive profile.
Nose: A vibrant bouquet of red berries, strawberries-and-cream, and a touch of cranberry, balanced by soft oak, vanilla, and warm baking spices—nutmeg and cinnamon.
Palate: Luscious and complex, with rich notes of dried fruits, salted caramel, floral honey, and a subtle punch of black pepper. A touch of tannin dryness adds structure.
Finish: Gently sweet at first, tapering into a dry yet fruit-laced finale that lingers elegantly.
